Junji Delfino

Junji Delfino, Jazz Singer

29-Dec-15 20:00

Junji Delfino

It speaks volumes when someone is given an honorary title in their profession, but being Malaysia’s First Lady of Jazz has only boosted Junji Delfino’s confidence in a field she’s excelled at for so many years. Throughout a span of three decades, her love for jazz began very young when she would listen to her father’s old records and be inspired to cultivate her own singing career.

She started her career in Philippines in the 80’s before moving to Malaysia in the 90’s where she really began to flourish. She ended up in the famous All That Jazz club and she had tribute hits celebrating the works of Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra with her collaborator, David Gomes.

Currently, she has 2 albums that include her very well received and praised solo album, Here I Am. She was also awarded the Best Vocal performer Award at the 9th Boh Cameronian Arts Awards 2012 for her tribute show, Lush Life, that was produced by her own production company, Jazz Works.

Other than singing, Junji is also a writer and an actress. She was in a theatre production called, Sex, Money, Scandal - The Pandemic, and also, Taming Of The Shrew, which was a Bollywood cabaret. Also, she was involved in Singapore’s first English television show in 2009 called, Red Thread. However, her roots stem deep in jazz and she always returns to her first love. Currently, she has performed in Malaysia, Singapore, Bangkok, San Francisco, Daly City and many other places in the world.

Junji Delfino is definitely a one woman tour de force.
