Dan Khoo

Tonight, completing the Malaysian YouTube trio of pioneers, Dan Khoo joins us to talk about how the website became such an integral part of his life. Having started with a background filled with numbers and graphs, Dan’s departure and making it big on Youtube shows that chasing your passion full-on pays off well.

Dan Khoo started off as an economics graduate from London School of Economics. He started making videos for fun during 2011, armed with a video camera and a basis of how films worked, Dan went out creating films with an emotional content and weight to them. As time went by, Dan realised the potential of Youtube and went full-steam with his venture.

Little did he know, he was spearheading Malaysia’s ‘Youtube Boom’ alongside with JinnyboyTV, Dmingthing and a few others in 2012. These group of online filmmakers started to appear on websites and newspapers, eventually becoming household names for families. Things really got going for Dan when turned to the lighter cheek of comedy and released Sh*t Malaysian Girlfriends Say, his first video to break the half a million views mark. Soon after his video Banana in 2014 broke 1 million. His most popular video to date is I Give You Chance listed at 2.3 million views.

Dan has worked with a truckload of companies with his Youtube films. Early on his videos, Dan did the cinematography, script writing, directing and actor casting. Nowadays, Dan would go on as the scriptwriter and director while Jeremy Choi and Kelvin Goh would do the camera work now. Earlier this June, Dan’s amount of subscribers surpassed 300,000!

For the record, Dan scored _!
