Feminist Fridays #79: The Story of Kam Agong

Kam Agong died sixteen years ago, shortly after she gave birth to her eighth son, Jordan. Her daughter, Agnes Padan, journeyed back to her village in the interior of Sarawak to piece together what happened to her mother, and discovers a story of severe medical negligence that led to her mother's painful death. Filmmaker Lawrence Jayaraj chronicles his wife Agnes's journey in the film, "The Story of Kam Agong", which provides a glimpse of the state of maternity healthcare available to villagers living in rural areas of Sarawak. Lawrewce joins us to share the story behind his mother-in-law's untimely passing, and how Kam's family have been fighting for justice and advocating for better healtcare for women in rural Sarawak ever since.
