Myanmar’s semi-civilian government has embarked on a series of reforms since 2011, drawing conditional praise from the international community. Two recent proposed legal changes would have eased the military’s grip on power further, but hurdles to opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s presidential bid remain in place.
