Public Health: How (Un)Healthy Are Malaysians, According to NHMS 2023?

Chances are, you know someone who has a non-communicable disease, like diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol or obesity. In fact, you probably know someone who has all four of these conditions. The National Health and Morbidity Survey 2023: Non-Communicable Diseases and Healthcare Demand, reveals that more than half a million Malaysian adults (2.5% of population), suffer from all four diseases, and are at risk of stroke or heart disease. On this Public Health episode, Professor Dr Sharifa Ezat Wan Puteh, Professor in Health Economics, Hospital & Health Management, from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, joins Azrul Mohd Khalib to unpack the findings of NHMS 2023, which also revealed startling statistics about other health parameters, including sleep, health screening, and mental health disorders.
