Bridget Welsh of School of Social Sciences at Singapore Management University says bread and butter issues remain a priority with citizens and voters. Based on polling surveys, Bridget notes that since Reformasi more Malaysians have embraced the increase in democratic opportunities. Surveys also show that we have had a doubling in the number of Malaysians who participate in politics outside of the voting process.
