S1E07 - Future of Festivals

Unpacking Malaysian Cinema is an 8-part series that discusses relevant issues facing Malaysian film industry as told by filmmakers drawing on archival recordings and new interviews.

Film festivals represent an important avenue for recognition and promotion for Malaysian filmmakers looking to expand their international exposure and reputation. What is the role of film festivals in the broader film economy? We spoke to a number of filmmakers about their experience overseas at festivals, asking them what they’ve learned and gained, and what they expect the future of film festivals is.
