Cheeming Boey, Artist

Cheeming Boey

It takes a lot of courage and belief to delve into the world of the arts, which is exactly what Cheeming Boey did throughout his career. Born in Singapore and raised in Johor, he took a leap of faith when he left for San Francisco at the age of 17 to pursue his passion at the Academy of Art University where he eventually took up computer animation.

From that on, Boey moved to greater heights when he became the lead animator for Blizzard Entertainment’s most popular games that include, Diablo II, Diablo III and World Of Warcraft. Later on, he worked for Factor 5’s video game, Lair.

During his animation period, he began cultivating his own art on styrofoam coffee cups. This made him very popular where his art began to sell between US$140 (about RM570) and US$900 (about RM3,360) and they were also featured in multiple galleries. In May 2012, he released the first of his When I Was A Kid series that became a local success which chronicles his own personal life into adulthood.

Also, he has worked on various projects such for AirAsia, National Geographic, General Electric, Esquire and so forth. Besides that, he is also a travelling lecturer and he was a guest at TEDx Weldquay.
