Alex Yoong, Race Car Driver

16-Dec-15 20:00

Alex Yoong

For a man who needs no introduction, our very own Alex Yoong has raced himself into a household name in Malaysia. Born and bred from a family obsessed with racing, Alex started his career at the tender age of 16 with Proton and later moved on to Formula Asia where he was discovered by Paul Stewart. This brought him to the racing world of Formula Renault.

He became Malaysia’s sole driver in Formula 1 and even though it didn’t last long, Alex was catapulted to bigger and better things where he has won A1 races in Czech Republic and Mexico, awarded the Best Rookie of the year 2006 for Le Mans, and being a double winning champion in the Audi R8 LMS Asia Championship.

Since then, Alex became a commentator for motorsports on ESPN and he has also competed in water skiing where he represented the country in the 2011 Sea Games. He continues to be a teacher for other young and inspired drivers such as the up-and-coming, Daniel Woodroof.
