This week we speak to Joanna Lohman, a long-time stalwart of the NWSL (National Women's Soccer League) currently playing her trade at Washington Spirit. She also spent time abroad playing in Spain for Espanyol Femení, with Japanese club, NTV Beleza, and also a former U.S. Women’s National Team player with nine caps to her name. Now at the tail-end of her playing career, she's heavily involved in female activism in sport and also invested in giving back to the community, running football clinics all around Africa. The 36-year old made a name for herself as a gritty and tough holding-midfielder, with an accomplished career that even saw her invited to the White House by Bill Clinton - she joins the programme this week, taking some time to talk to us halfway through her Rainbow Warrior Tour of South-East Asia as she reflects on her career, how sport can shape leaders, and her plans of fostering a safe space for female athletes.
