Tin Witch Poet

On this week’s program, it’s of witches, Maria Rilke’s poetry and tin. Kam Raslan invites director and actor, Na’a Murad and PUSAKA’s Pauline Fan to discuss these topics. Na’a Murad started off with witches or synonymously, nenek kebayan. Once upon a time, these scary monstrous creatures were known to be wise, consultant of a village and herbal healers till patriarchy sipped into our culture. Pauline then shared her current literature obsession that she is also translating from German to Malay – Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke. She made many discoveries through this process and one of them was how lyrical and “berkias” the Malay language is. Finally, Kam pointed out the golden age of the tin industry in Malaysia back in the 60s which then died out without leaving any remanence of cultural legacy. How could that be?
