Tightening Our Belts on China-Malaysia Relations and Hospitality

00:30 - Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed is in China on a 5-day working visit in conjunction with the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. He will be meeting with three key leaders of China’s government. The trip follows on the heels of last week’s announcement of the revival of the China-backed Bandar Malaysia project, as well as the resumption of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL). We speak to Dr. Cassey Lee, a Senior Fellow at the ISEAS Yusof Ishak Institute in Singapore, to discuss the visit and the state of play between Malaysia and China.

07:56 - Airbnb is opposing a proposal by the Malaysian Association of Hotels for short-term rentals in Malaysia to be capped at possibly 90 to 180 days. We listen to Mich Goh, the Southeast Asia Head of Policy for Airbnb, as well as Yap Lip Seng, the CEO of the Malaysian Association of Hotels, on the different perspective of the hospitality industry.
