October Rout Woes Grip

Vishnu Varathan, Head of Economics & Strategy, Mizuho Bank, Singapore, discusses whether the Jamal Khashoggi incident has become a determining factor in a turbulent oil market as well.

He then comments on yesterday's market rout in the NASDAQ, S&P and Dow in the context of fund flows to safer assets like US T-Bills and the Japanese Yen.

He also discussed interventionist measures by China's PBOC to help stopper the bleeding and whether this would continue going forward.

He ends with a view on Malaysia's Ringgit as the country goes into a period where the new govt announces its maiden budget and it re-evaluates its development plans, having just completed a mid-term review for its 11th Malaysia Plan.
