In January, Kelantan State Government struck a deal with carbon trading company Climate Protectors to preserve over 300,000 hectares of forest in exchange for income generated from sales of carbon credits.
But the deal has drawn backlash from the federal Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment as well as several environmental groups.
