Hong Kong - Localist Politicians ‘Win’

Two years after tens of thousands of young people poured on to the streets of Hong Kong in what has been known as the “umbrella movement” protests, the people of the Special Administrative Region went to the polls. Turning out in record number on Sunday the votes reflected the ‘autonomy’ agenda of the earlier protests. While the Legislative Council (LegCo) is dominated by pro-Beijing voices, four young activists who support greater political autonomy or outright independence from China have claimed seats in the 70-member assembly. We find out what course Hong Kong is now set on.

Interview by Melisa Idris and Sharaad Kuttan.
