France 2017 - Democratic Ferment

On Sunday, France went to the polls for its first round of the Presidential Election. Voters rejected the country's political establishment, sending far-right populist Marine Le Pen and political newcomer and centrist Emmanuel Macron through to the second round. While comfortably ahead of Le Pen, it's not a done deal for Macron, with uncertainties over where the considerable votes for losing candidates will go. Today on Current Affairs we look at an election which might signal the peak of populist politics in Europe.

This is a report by Sharaad Kuttan.
