Francis Fukuyama’s 1992 bestseller, “The End of History and the Last Man”, seem to put a full-stop in the debate about competing political systems; liberal-democracy’s triumph was irreversible. But China’s economic success has now revived that debate. The publication of "The China Model" give us a nuanced view of the inner working of the behemoth’s political system. Bell argues that China's “political meritocracy” has many advantages and values that cannot be found in countries with liberal-democratic systems. Today we explore the contours of China’s politics.
