Episode #7: Supergirls (When We Last Left Our Heroes)

In 1941, Wonder Woman was conceived to be the original, the iconic, the feminist superhero. In a world full of second tier female characters, here was finally a woman who was as comfortable with her sexuality as she was with her strength. Someone who could fight the good fight while showing some skin at the same time. But how has the female superhero changed over time? Has she evolved from being a token character into something more substantial? This week, Umapagan Ampikaipakan talks about his enduring fascination with Wonder Woman and the female superhero. He speaks to comic book historians Mike Madrid and Tim Hanley about where these crime-fighting females fit in popular culture and what their stories say about the role of women in society.
