Top 5 at 5: RM160 Million Swindled By Rogue Lawyers

According to the Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department, over 160 people have been defrauded of RM160 million by their lawyers, for the past four years. There have been increased calls for stricter disciplinary actions and better public education for clients. Lawyer Nizam Bashir weighs in.

Other stories we covered:

· Criticism over EPF's stake in MAHB deal: This criticism comes from MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, who questioned EPF for rebuying Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd's shares at higher prices, shortly after selling them at lower prices. M. Shanmugam, contributing editor of The Edge about whether these criticisms have weight.

· Native Court fines Fahmi Reza for Tun Musa Aman dig: In an unanimous decision, Fahmi has been given what's known as a 'sogit', which is a penalty mechanism to appease a vilage community for the breach of native customs. To understand what this entails, we spoke to Isaiah Majinbon, member of the Native Judicial Reform Committee under the Sabah Native Affairs Council and Ariff Adi Putera, research officer for the Institute for Development Studies in Sabah.

· Four people win record-breaking jackpot: Three of them received RM35 million each, while one person won RM17 million. The high jackpot has naturally contributed to a surge in lottery ticket sales. This got us thinking about the links between activities like the lottery and addiction. So we revisit a conversation that Health and Living had with Dr Amer Siddiq Amer Nordin, a consultant from Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.

· Donald Trump gears up for his return: Trump's inauguration is set to happen later tonight, so we take a look at the pre-inauguration rally in Washington.
