Top 5 At 5: More Moolah For Civil Servants

The stories we covered today:

5. The government is in the process of drafting out a law that would see men being fined if they entered the women's coaches on KTMs and MRTs. This is coming after a video recording of a man arguing heatedly with a woman after he was seen trespassing, went viral online. We speak to Alyssa Pong, Assistant Advocacy Officer at All Women’s Action Society on how this would create safer spaces for women.

4. There's been a lot of headlines involving fatal accidents of minors involved in illegal racing, with the most recent one involving the deaths of two 13 year olds. The police have reiterated the need for parents to be responsible, and have suggested that parents be charged in these cases. Dr Law Teik Hwa, associate professor at the Road Safety Research Centre at Universiti Putra Malaysia, weighs in on why there's such a challenge for parents to educate their children on the dangers of illegal racing.

3. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadil has called for all social media platforms to have a label or notification on all AI-generated content posted on their platforms. This follows a recent deep fake video of content creator Khairulaming asking his followers to purchase cooking utensils to help fund repairs for his warehouse. We speak to Matt Armitage, Founder of Kulturpop and regular on our Tech Talk shows for his thoughts.

2. Dato Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar has been appointed the government's new chief secretary. We speak to Ben suffian, programme director of Merdeka Centre for his thoughts on what the appointment signifies.

1. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced salary increments for the country’s 1.6 million civil servants ranging between 7% and 15% under the new Public Service Remuneration System. We speak to Dr Shankaran Nambiar, fellow at the Institut Masa Depan Malaysia about the implications of this hike.
