Top 5 at 5: Making Sense of The 19pct Tariffs on Malaysia

The US has fixed a tariff of 19 percent on Malaysian imports for now, reducing it from the 24 percent that he announced on Liberation Day. But what do we know about the negotiation deal, and what's at stake for us? We get into it with Yin Shao Loong, Deputy Director of Research at the Khazanah Research Institute.

Other stories we covered:

• Will the US obstruct Palestinian recognition?: Countries like Canada, France and the UK have signalled plans to recognize Palestine statehood, and US President Donald Trump is not happy, threatening Canada with a 35 percent tariff. We hear thoughts from Julia Roknifard, senior lecturer at the School of Law and Governance at Taylor's University.

• Fined for using ethnic slur against deputy speaker: A man was fined RM1,300 for using the word "sakai" against the deputy Dewan Rakyat speaker Dato Ramli Nor, who is Malaysia's first Orang Asli parlimentarian. We speak to Bah Tony, lawyer and Orang Asli activist, as well as Kamal Solhaimi Fadzil, anthropologist from Universiti Malaya, about why these terms are offensive.

• Earthquake hits Russia: This earthquake is considered the sixth strongest to have ever hit the country, causing tsunami waves to crash ashore in Japan and Alaska. Dr Goh Thian Lai, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia joins us to give context of its scale.

• Vigilantes in Alor Gajah: A man was chased and beaten to death by passersby, after he allegedly exposed his private parts in public. We talk about vigilantism, and when it crosses the line.
