Top 5 at 5: Demolition at Kampung Papan Pushes On

Twelve activists and residents have been arrested as Kampung Papan faces its fourth day of evictions and demolitions. Despite government assurances, homes are being torn down, leaving families displaced and civil society outraged. We speak to Tony Leong, ADUN of Pandamaran, about his perspective on what's happening on ground.

• Govt tightens security after information leak: Ten arrests over leaked tactical information to smuggling syndicates have sparked national security concerns. We talk about the repercussions of this with Raymon Ram, president of Transparency International Malaysia.

• Pet owners demand protection for park: Pet owners in Bandar Utama are petitioning MBPJ to save the Central Park off‑leash zone, after part of its fencing was dismantled. MBPJ has responded by saying that the development needed to continue, and told pet owners to leash their dogs.

• Sharks and rays sale booming: A new report reveals Malaysia’s booming online shark and ray trade, worth over RM326 million and involving endangered species. With millions of kilograms sold on platforms like Facebook and Shopee, conservationists warn of ecological collapse unless laws, traceability, and consumer habits change. We speak to one of the report’s co-authors, Serene Chng, the Programme Manager of TRAFFIC Southeast Asia about this.

• Michelin Guide expands in Malaysia: It spotlights 151 eateries across KL and Penang. With five new Penang restaurants added and Dewakan holding its two‑star crown, the guide cements Penang’s reputation as a food paradise. We dive in what this recognition means for Penang's culinary culture, and how it makes Malaysian food shine on the global stage.
