Warisan KL, a collaborative initiative to reignite the historic beauty of Kuala Lumpur’s heritage, was recently launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Starting with larger structures, the project will later expand to smaller community areas. To tell us more about the project and what we can expect down the line, we were joined by Dato’ Hamdan Abdul Majeed, Managing Director of Think City.
Other stories we covered:
• Maldives' president visits Malaysia: Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Malaysia saw the deepening of bilateral ties, but back home, protests continue over the suspicious death of Hawwa Yum-nu Rasheed. Analyst Yanitha Meena Louis from ISIS Malaysia unpacks the geopolitical context of Muizzu’s trip and the growing unrest challenging his administration.
• SST expansion delayed: The expansion of the Sales and Service Tax initially set for May has been postponed to June 1st to allow more time for finalising guidelines. Professor Ahmed Razman Abdul Latiff, MBA & DBA Programs Director at Putra Business School, explains the reasons behind the delay.
• Is traditional medicine affected by the price display policy?: “Traditional medicines” are now required to have their prices displayed under the Medicines Price Transparency Mechanism that will be implemented starting the 1st of May. This has resulted in confusion among medical practitioners as to whether their centres will be affected. We cover this with Yi Kai, the Honorary Secretary of the Federation of Complementary & Natural Medical Associations Malaysia.
• Who is to blame when a child ruins expensive art?: A painting by American artist Mark Rothko was scratched by a child in a museum in Rotterdam. Questions then arise about who should be held accountable when damage occurs, the museum or the perpetrator, and whether we can still rely on museum etiquette. We discuss this.
