Top 5 at 5: A More Inclusive Approach for Indigenous Students

The Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) has launched their report for inclusive education for the Orang Asli. The project began in 2020 and aims for a community-first approach. We unpack the report and the accessibility of education for Orang Asli children with leader of the project, Associate Professor Dr Suria Angit from the School of Education at University of Nottingham Malaysia.

Other stories we covered:

• Inconsistencies in Malaysia's vape ban: While some Malaysian states are enforcing vape bans, others are holding back, creating a patchwork of conflicting regulations. This has renewed calls for nationwide bans to be implemented on vaping. Can state-level efforts work without federal backing? Lawyer Salim Bashir weighs in.
Wellness centre shuts down leaving hundreds at a loss: Johor police have received hundreds of reports from customers who purchased spa packages from a health and wellness company but couldn’t redeem their claims. The business shut down, leaving customers unable to recover thousands of ringgit. We discuss the legal rights of a consumer in situations like this with lawyer, Choo Dee Wei.
Better safety for pedestrians and cyclists: In conjunction with the 8th Global Road Safety Week, the UN highlighted the dangers pedestrians and cyclists face as they navigate dangerous roads built for cars. We discuss the state of our own broken-down pedestrian infrastructure here in Malaysia, and the government’s role in this issue with Dr Kulanthayan KC Mani, head of the Putra Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion Group at University Putra Malaysia.
• Free entry for International Museum Day: This Sunday, the 18th of May, all 19 museums under the Department of Museums Malaysia (JMM) will be open for free. We talk about different museum options and the experience of going to a good museum.
