Bukit Kiara is often described as one of Kuala Lumpur’s green hearts, an urban forest that quietly supports biodiversity, cools the city, and offers thousands of people a rare chance to experience nature without leaving town. But beyond its trails and trees, Bukit Kiara tells a much bigger story about how public spaces are valued, how communities come together to protect them, and why urban nature matters to our wellbeing. We speak to Tan Boon Hua, Vice President of Friends of Bukit Kiara, and Dr Kriban Naidu, FOBK’s Immediate Past President, to help us understand what makes Bukit Kiara so special, and what its story tells us about the evolving relationship between the city and nature.
