Decriminalizing Suicide In Malaysia - What's Next?

In today's Inside Story, we look into the news of the abolishment of Section 309 of the Penal Code on the criminalization of suicide, following the statement made by Deputy Health Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang in yesterday's parliament sitting on this topic. First, we discuss how changing this law would help, and what else needs to be done to support it. Next, we revisit what Nurul Izzah Anwar and Kasthuri Patto have said on this issue, in conversations with our colleagues on The Bigger Picture and The Breakfast Grille. Finally, we talk about the kind of mental health care and support should be provided for people who have survived suicide attempts.
