Inspector Singh, that portly loveable malcontent, has finally left the familiar confines of Asia. His latest adventure - Inspector Singh Investigates A Frightfully English Execution - finds him at odds with Scotland Yard, his wife, and London's finest criminals. This week, on Invisible Cities, Shamini Flint takes Uma on a trip to London, through the eyes of her eponymous hero.

Invisible Cities is an all new series that seeks to take you on a journey to a different place, to a different time, to a different world, to one of those invisible cities that only exist within the pages of a good book.

Show Notes:

i) If you're looking for more of Uma's chats with Shamini Flint, you can find previous BFM podcasts here, and here.

ii) Shamini Flint is also the bestselling author of a variety of books for younger readers. So if you have kids - or just enjoy children's fiction - you should also check out both her "Sasha" and "Diary of..." books.

iii) Another fantastic collection of detective stories is Qiu Xiaolong's Chief Inspector Chen series of novels. They are gritty detective novels, set on the streets of Shanghai, that have gained a faithful following. Here's a link to NPR's morning edition that gives a quick and dirty overview to his work.
