Has the Internet taken shaming too far?

Surendra Ananth, Advocate and Solicitor & Co-Chairperson of the Malaysian Bar Constitutional Law Committee

Has the Internet taken shaming too far?

Over in the UK it’s happening again. A former well-known actress is being shamed in the tabloids because she no longer is appearing on TV and is now doing a ‘normal’ job. Should it matter that she is doing a normal job? Should she be made to feel ashamed? Of course not. Additionally, should we be made to feel ashamed that we choose to travel a certain way, or shop a certain way, or even choose a diet that might not meet some other peoples’ standards? Has the Internet taken shaming too far? Have we as a culture, allowed this to happen?
