The current global outcry against racism, sparked in part by the death of George Floyd in the United States, has increased pressure on multinational beauty brands to do away with products that promote lighter or fairer skins. Brands like Johnson & Johnson, Unilever, and L’Oreal are among those that have announced that they will be pulling or renaming these products. But is this enough? We discuss the issue of colourism and why it is still so difficult to battle.
