The Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China’s far west has been home to some of the country’s worst ethnic violence in recent times. Along with the mass migration of Han Chinese into Xinjiang and the economic tension that ensued, the predominantly Muslim Uyghur population shot into prominence when the world media wrongly linked the MH370 incident to a Uyghur. We speak to Dr. Roy Anthony Rogers from Universiti Malaya to clear up misconceptions of this little understood community.
