Convention Against Torture

Malaysia remains one of only 38 UN member states which have yet to ratify the 1987 UN Convention Against Torture. A few civil society organizations recently got together to launch a campaign encouraging the Malaysian government to ratify this treaty. Shamini Darshni of Amnesty International Malaysia and James Nayagam of the Human Rights Commision of Malaysia explain why it is important that Malaysia becomes a signatory to this convention.
