Statistics show that sex offenders who undergo rehabilitation are less likely to reoffend, with a drop in recidivism from 17 to 10 per cent, but a recent study questions whether this drop in recidivism is due to rehabilitation programmes. We speak to criminologist and psychologist Dr. Geshina Ayu Mat Saat, who created the Malaysian module for the rehabilitation of incarcerated sexual offenders, about the empirical evidence behind treatment programmes for sex offenders.
