Human Rights Defenders #3: Datuk Lok Yim Pheng

In this eight-part series with the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM), we speak to the eight appointed commissioners about their work, find out why they are passionate about human rights, and the issues that they will pursue during their three-year terms. This week, we speak to Datuk Lok Yim Pheng about human rights education in schools and the continuing use (and abuse) of corporal punishment in schools. Datuk Lok is a former Secretary General of both the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP), and the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Sercies (CUEPACS). She began her teaching career in 1978 and was seconded to the Public Service Department in 2004.
