Feminist Fridays #28: The Hidden Histories of Malayan Women

The women behind the virtual archive Sejarah Wanita believe that women’s contributions and experiences have largely been left out of Malaysia’s historical narrative. They aim to unearth, document and highlight women’s contribution to the history of Malaysia, and provide a platform for our collective memories where stories of Malaysian women are recovered and celebrated. With Merdeka round the corner, we speak to Juana Jaafar, a co-founder of Sejarah Wanita, to find out more about this effort, and to hear about some of the women that also fought for Malaya's Independence, but whose stories didn't quite make it into our history books.
