Joshua Oppenheimer, Documentary Filmmaker

The Look of Silence

In 1965, around a million people suspected of being communists were killed in Indonesia. But the country has not acknowledged its dark past, and some of the perpetrators are still in power. Joshua Oppenheimer’s searing documentary “The Look of Silence” is an attempt to hold a mirror up to the nation. It won the 2014 Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival.
