UNDP Report: Informal Sector

The first Malaysia Human Development Report was released last November by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Co-sponsored by both the UNDP and the Economic Planning Unit, the report found that, among other things, the middle class is shrinking, wage is stagnating, and the number of poor Malaysians have increased since 2007. Discussing the report’s findings and what role the informal sector can play is Datuk Dr. Denison Jayasooria, a principal research fellow at the Institute of Ethnic Studies at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
