Regulating Genetically Modified Foods

Malaysia's Ministry of Environment has approved two genetically modified (GM) corn varieties for food, feed and processing use this year. This brings the total of GM products allowed for use in Malaysia under the 2007 National Biosafety Act to 14. However, a heated debate over their safety is still ongoing. Civil society groups claim they pose serious health and environmental risks, while the pro-GM lobby says there's no scientific evidence for this. Lim Li Lin, senior researcher from Third World Network, teases out some of these points of contention.
