Curriculum #8: English in Preschools

One of the efforts outlined by the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025 to improve English language proficiency among students is to introduce English in preschools. Anna Christina Abdullah, who serves on the panel of experts for English Language Standards and Quality Council, explains the challenges of making language acquisition fun and developmentally appropriate for the approximately 200,000 students currently enrolled in public preschools. Anna is also a professor at the School of Education, Languages and Communication, Wawasan Open University.

 

Anna also co-wrote an article on this in the New Straits Time titled “Conducive ecosystem for learning in preschools.
