The Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza Is At “Catastrophic Levels”

More than 25,000 Palestinians have been killed and 1.9 million - more than 85% of Gaza’s population - has been displaced since Israel began its latest assault on Gaza on 7th October. In fact, Israel’s military campaign has resulted in crisis levels of hunger and starvation, with UN agencies warning of famine and disease, even as the Gazan healthcare system struggles to cope with the injuries inflicted on Palestinians by the war. We speak to Regidor Javier Esguerra, a registered nurse and healthcare worker with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), who has been assigned to Gaza five times since 2018, including during this latest conflict, on what he’s seen and why we need a ceasefire now.
