According to the World Health Organization, 134 million adverse events occur globally each year due to unsafe care in hospitals in low- and middle-income countries. This means people who go to healthcare facilities for treatment are actually getting harmed. The WHO has recognised that patient safety is a global public health priority, declaring September 17, 2019 as the first World Patient Safety Day. Erin Lloyd, Group Head of Nursing, Quality & Risk Management, Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care Group, brings the perspective of the healthcare provider to this discussion about patient safety.
