The Temiar Community and their relationship with the Forest

Since late September, more than 200 Temiar villagers built barricades in protest against logging activities carried out within the Balah Forest Reserve near Gua Musang, Kelantan. The Temiar community believe these logging activities have encroached upon their community's customary lands.

We find more about the Temiar community and their relationship with the forest, and why logging is impacting their way of life so drastically, from Siti Kasim, a lawyer and human rights activist  and Sophine Tann, who is from the NGO Pertubuhan Pelindung Khazanah Alam Malaysia or PEKA. Both of them have been working directly with the Temiar community and providing assistance in various capacities to them.
